Brían McNamara Nurse of the Year Award at NHI Care Awards 2012

Brian_McNamara_GreenparkBrían McNamara has won the National Nursing Home Registered Nurse of the Year Award last Thursday night November 15th in the Citywest Hotel. Brían was one of four Galway finalists in the Nursing Home Ireland Care Awards. In excess of 300 nominations were received for the Nursing Home Ireland Care Awards 2012. RTE presenter Marty Whelan was the MC for the event.

Nursing Homes Ireland represents the private and voluntary nursing home sector and nominees were sought for the nine award categories from its 360+ member nursing homes. Nominations were submitted by nursing home residents, visitors to homes, staff, and people in communities across Ireland.
Brían has been involved with Greenpark Nursing Home, which was founded by his parents Cora & Brian in 1991, since he was a child and while he held many roles there, he decided to go back to college in 2007 to study for a degree in nursing. Upon qualifying, he immediately returned to work in the family run nursing home which last year underwent a dramatic transformation. Brían, who lives with his wife Joan and young son Ben in Tuam, was both shocked and thrilled at winning the award. "I'm thrilled to have won this award and I regard it as a great honour. I'm enormously proud to accept this award and dedicate it to all the staff and residents of the Greenpark Nursing Home. This award reflects the excellent care we at Greenpark Nursing Home provide to the residents in our care."

Tadhg Daly, Nursing Homes Ireland CEO offered his congratulations: "I want to take this opportunity to congratulate Brían for his excellent achievement in winning the NHI Care Awards 2012 Registered Nurse of the Year. In communities across Ireland, nurses are demonstrating excellent care and compassion and enabling persons in their care to live happy and fulfilling lives. Brían's is an outstanding and excellent achievement and one Brían himself, residents, staff and visitors to Greenpark Nursing Home, and the wider community should be very proud of."

The Nursing Home Registered Nurse of the Year Award celebrates excellence in nursing practice in residential and long-term care in nursing homes. Candidates are required to demonstrate how their work as a registered nurse contributes to care excellence and how the work has a demonstrable benefit in achieving a culture of person-centeredness in the nursing home, i.e. a culture that demonstrates a commitment to the enhancement of services that respect the beliefs, values, needs, desires, hopes and dreams of residents and staff.
